REACH Restriction on the Use of Diisocyanates in the EU
We would like to inform you that on August 4th 2020, a new restriction on diisocyanates under REACH was adopted by the European Union authorities, targeting respiratory and dermal sensitization potentially caused by diisocyanates. This restriction specifies the need for training and labeling for industrial or professional users of products and mixtures containing more than 0.1% by weight of diisocyanate.
To ensure that workers across the EU can continue to handle diisocyanates safely, new training requirements will become mandatory for professional and industrials users under the EU´s REACH Regulation from 24 August 2023. The user of diisocyanates – either the employer of the user or the self-employed person – must complete and document the completion of the training.
We want to highlight that ISOPA/ALIPA and their industry partners have recently launched a comprehensive safety training program on diisocyanates on the linked website which is available in English from 1st November.
Other languages will come in the next months, German on 1st December 2021 and other EU languages at first quarter 2022. The platform is already accessible across the EU. In the platform the corresponding certificate to comply with the legal training requirements of the REACH regulation can be obtained. Let´s keep using diisocyanates safely to deliver innovative, versatile, and sustainable solutions for Europe.
